Dario Edoardo Viganò (27th June 1962, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil), following his initial studies in philosophy and theology at the university of Milan, Viganò graduated and obtained his doctorate in the Science of Communication from the Salesian Pontifical University.
He is professor of Communication Studies and Dean of the Istituto Pastorale 'Redemptor Hominis' at the Lateran Pontifical University in Rome. He is also director of the 'Centro Interdisciplinare Lateranense'.
Viganò lectures in 'Linguaggi e mercati dell'audiovisivo' (Audio-visual languages and market) and Theory and Techniques of Cinema at the LUISS "Guido Carli" University of Rome where he is also a member of the directing committee for the research centre "Massimo Baldini" Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS).
For a number of years he has been president of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo and director of the Italian cinema journal 'Rivista del Cinematografo', furthermore, he is also president of the Italian 'Commissione Nazionale Valutazione Film' (CNVF) of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) and is a member of the Administrative Council for the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, with responsibilities in the Italian national film archives and in publishing.
Viganò is the author of numerous studies dedicated to the analysis of the relationship between the media and the Catholic church, with particular attention being paid to the cinema.
